Living With Cancer Support Group

 

 Tuesdays, Feb. 14 – Mar. 6, 2012

 4:30-6:00 p.m.

CCC Upper Level Conference Room

Patients, families, and friends welcome.   Free of charge

 

Each group meeting will include an educational component as well as an opportunity for group sharing and interaction. Patients, families, and friends will find support and understanding as they cope with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Groups are facilitated by Rita Gingrich, LCSW, PNI Counselor, and Pat Shoemaker, LSW, PNI Counselor. Please join us!

 

 Feb. 14

          Choosing Hope: Examine the concept of hope, and experience hope through

          mutually shared stories and experiences.

 

Feb. 21

 Take Time to Play:  Engage in a non-competitive game that encourages self  

 expression and affirmation. Life Stories is a therapeutic game in which every  

 player wins as reminiscences, thoughts, and opinions are shared.

          

Feb. 28

The Perfect Calm: Deep within each of us lies a well of inner calm. Figuring out how to tap into it, even for a few minutes each day, is essential for our well being and peace of mind.  

 

Mar. 6

          Walking the Labyrinth: Find a path to inner peace by walking the labyrinth, a tool  

          for relaxation and healing.

If you are a patient at the Center for Cancer Care you can also receive no-cost professional counseling to provide emotional support, assist you in coping with treatment, and guide you to resources that can help you better able to focus on your health. Pink Pajama Party: Vera Bradley

Get ready for the eight annual Pink Pajama Party at the Indianapolis Marriott North -  Keystone at the Crossing February 24 - 25 to support I W.I.N. the Indiana Women In Need Foundation.

Sponsored by Vera Bradley, the reception is from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Pink Pajama Party begins at 7:00 p.m. with music by Living Proof and ends at midnight.

Managing Mid-life Health

Managing Mid-life Health will be offered at The Retreat Women’s Health Center, 1135 Professional Drive, Goshen from 9:00 a.m. – noon, Saturday Feb. 25.

 

Maple City Market will be providing a demonstration on healthy snack options with a Yogurt Parfait Station during the event.

 

Requested donation is $5 to support HeartStrings Sisters, which provides free screening mammograms to uninsured women.

 

Seating is limited. Call 574-364-4000 for reservations.

Leprechaun Leap for United Cancer Services

Mark McGill of Froggy radio leads The Leap into Simonton Lake for United Cancer Services annual Leprechaun Leap, Saturday, March 17. Doors open at Pete's Simonton Lake Tavern at noon with The Leap taking place at 2 p.m. Over 200 participants and 300 observers are expected for the annual event.. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society speaker - dinner for patients of hematologic cancers

Dr. Grace Suh, medical oncologist at IU Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care, will provide an educational presentation to patients with hematologic cancers, March 26 at the Arbor Conference Center at Goshen Hospital. Co -sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Goshen Center for Cancer Care, the event will include a buffet dinner and opportunity for questions and answers following Dr. Suh's presentation. Clarie Kammen, patient services manager from the Indiana Chapter of LLS will provide educational information and be available for discussion. The event is limited to patients and survivors of lymphoma and myeloma. Attendees may bring a guest. There is no charge for the event but reservations are required by calling 574-364-2922 or email scarbone@iuhealth.org. .

United Cancer Spaghetti Dinner

United Cancer Services of Elkhart County's Circle of Friends will host the annual spaghetti dinner at Harrison Landing, Elkhart, April 14th at 6 p.m. Funds benefit Elkhart County residents undergoing treatment for cancer. Relay for Life Elkhart County United!

The 2012 Relay for Life of Elkhart County will be held from 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 16 to 10:00 a.m. Sunday June 17.

This event will be a combined Elkhart County North (Elkhart) and Elkhart County South (Goshen)event. It will be held at the Concord High School in Dunlap, Ind.

If you would like to serve on the Relay Commitee to help organize the event, contact Juliana Newbill, American Cancer Society representative at Juliana.Newbill@cancer.org or call 574-257-9789.

All cancer survivors, patients, friends and family are invited to participate in Relay for Life.
